Residents of Picket Twenty used their community spirit to get them into the festive mood after putting together a Christmas party. A group of former trustees of the Picket Twenty Community Association and residents planned the event in Quicksilver Cove Park back in December 19th 2020.

Parents praised the event online, saying that their children “had a brilliant time.”

“The kids had a great time hunting for letters and finding the Christmas decorations around the park,” said one. “Seeing Santa and receiving a goody bag was an extra bonus.”

Another thanked the organisers, saying: “The kids absolutely loved it, such a lovely thing for you to do!”

Preparations for the event began with a fundraiser to raise money in order to get all the necessary items. The residents received a £100 boost from an anonymous individual, bringing them to £300 overall. They used this money to purchase a gazebo for ‘Santa’s socially distanced grotto,’ as well as items to decorate it and to go on a scavenger hunt.

After children had completed the activities, they were invited into the grotto to receive a goody bag from Santa.

The Christmas events don’t stop there, however, with money remaining from the event, as well as others throughout the year, being used to fund seven Christmas hampers, which will be delivered to Picket Twenty residents who were nominated by others.

The organisers of the events said that “the atmosphere and turnout were amazing,” adding: “The smiles on the children’s faces and parents' comments on Facebook made all the hard work & planning worthwhile for the team.
