Four years ago we were all leading different lives with strict restrictions in place.
Halloween was approaching and the children were unable to go trick of treating
which is a very popular activity here at P20.
Restrictions were being lifted and we were allowed to socialise outdoors with social
distancing in place Emma (who is now Chairperson of the P20 Resident Events
team)
asked me if we could organise an outdoor activity for Halloween so the children did
not miss out due to lockdown so myself, Emma, Chelsea & Bev (who are all former
trustees of the Picket twenty community centre) came together to put on our very
first event in the Quicksilver park area where the children had to find Halloween
themed items clues and spell out a Halloween related word and were rewarded
with a prize. The prizes were kindly made and donated by Steve Lee owner of
Steves 3D printing www.steves3Dprinting.co.uk
The event was so well received we were asked if we would consider holding a
Christmas event which we did and set up a go fund me page to purchase some
jingle bell sticks for Santa to give to the children so they could take part in the
nationwide Christmas eve Jingle.
Reports by the Andover Advertiser for both of these events can be read on our blog.
Someone reported us to the council for holding our events in the park area which in
turn worked out really well for us as we started holding our events at the P20 sports
pavilion where we can offer so much more at our events.
In 2022 with help from Kevin Rush AKA Carnival Kev we became a
not for profit organisation and more volunteer team members have joined us and we
have grown and become a dedicated team to provide affordable events.
We all care passionately about our community and with very little happening for the
community feel that void needs to be filled so we will continue to hold as many
events as possible few predominantly hold the events for our community but anyone
is welcome to attend.
We would not be able to offer what we do without the support of those attending our
events, companies donating raffle prizes, and funding and grants. The team would
like to say a big thank you to everyone for the continued support.
